How many plankton nets do I need for my study?

The quantity of plankton nets that you need for a study depends on many factors. 

First of all, how many people will be using the plankton nets at the same time?

Are you doing more than one study in different bodies of water at the same time?

Will you be at sea for a long period and having extra nets could be useful in case of damage?

All of these questions are important to ask yourself before purchasing plankton nets.

A rule of thumb that seems to work well is to always have a minimum of 2 units of the same net for each location that will be doing a study at the same time. For example, if you are conducting a study on 3 different ships in 3 different locations with the same nets, then we would recommend 2 nets per ship for a total of 6 plankton nets. 

This way, each location has a back-up net in case of tears during the study. 

Again, this is a bare minimum and depends on your experience and your risk tolerance. 

Say your ship will be at sea for 5 weeks, you might want to get a few extra nets per ship in order to make sure there is no interruption in your studies because of damaged plankton nets.
