The main objective of the Gill Net is to capture fish of a certain size in the bottom of a watercourse by means of their gills
  • The commercial fishing gillnet is capable of catching a multitude of fish species (herring, mackerel, cod, shad, walleye, salmonids, sturgeon). 
  • It consists of a rectangular net spread vertically in the water.
  • The length can vary between 50ft and 300ft and the depth is usually 6ft or 8ft.
  • To keep the net vertical in the water,
    floats
    are installed every 6ft on the top and a
    lead core
    line on the bottom
  • This is for passive and selective fishery; the meshes must be adapted to the type of fish sought, which will be held by the meshes at the gills.
  • The gillnet is made of
    monofilament
    or
    multifilament
    . The size of the
    mesh
    and the percentage of mounting are chosen according to the fish sought.
Mesh Size per fish:
Walleye = Multifilamment 3in, 3-1/2in or 4in stretched
Sturgeon = Multifilamment 8in, 10in or 12in stretched
Salmonids = Monofilamment 4in, 5in or 6in stretched

twine
to fix the net and the rope
The finished product has extra ropes (free or looped) at every extremity in order to faciliate installation
It is possible to add a floating rope on the top of the net to inrease floatability
It is possible to add a lead core line on the bottom of the net to weigh it down
Manufacture options: It is possible to dye the net in green create a camouflage effect in water to help in the capture of fish
It is possible to add a 1/4in chain on the bottom of the net to weigh the net down
It is possible to add a lead core line on the bottom of the net to weigh it down
It is possible to add boyees on the top of the net to increase floatbility
It is possible to add a floating rope on the top of the net to inrease floatability
It is possible to add a double lead core line on the bottom of the net weigh the net down (ideal for waters with strong current)
